Spring is here which means it's time for hundreds of walks, tens of thousands of walkers, all with one goal in mind: A world free of multiple sclerosis.
Many of you know that I’m a big supporter of the National MS Society and act as an ambassador for that organization. The MS Society and it’s more than 50 local chapters offer a myriad of support avenues to people diagnosed with MS and our families.
Through research grants, the National MS Society (NMSS) has helped advance the world’s body of knowledge about multiple sclerosis. In fact, there are more scholarly papers published annually then there were published in the whole of history before the founding of the NMSS.
For those who find things like LDN underfunded, the National MS Society funded (and continues to fund) the first major study of LDN and MS.
Local chapters of the NMSS present educational programs for those of us with MS and those close to us. They train and sponsor self-help groups, they assist with home assessments for those living with particular challenges, high copays for our disease modifying drugs and they can even lend some direct financial aid for emergencies (such as eviction and utility shut-off).
Back to the MS walking; Team Gleason was founded in 2004 by some friends of mine and has grown to a national walk team and fundraising entity for people living with multiple sclerosis.
I encourage every one of you to join a Walk for MS, form a team or donate to a walker in your local community.
If that’s not something you’re into…have I got a deal for you!
Join Team Gleason as a “” with a 0 donation and you’ll get one of our super cool Team Gleason T- shirts. Can’t make that kind of commitment? How about a donation of whatever you can afford to the team or directly to .
Whatever you do (walk, join a team, make a donation or volunteer to help out at a Walk MS event), you’ll know that your time and money are responsibly spent on programs, services and research with a minimum of administrative costs.
Let’s all get together and do something for ourselves and for our community. Let’s Walk MS!
Wishing you and your family the best of health.
