Suspense: Lady in Distress / Dead Ernest / Death at Live Oak
Remembering Aromatherapy Associates’ Geraldine Howard
Geraldine Howard, Co-Founder of Aromatherapy Associates, sadly passed
away on 7th January 2019 after a long fight against cancer. ‘One of the
most thoughtful and inspirational women in the beauty industry, I knew
Geraldine professionally and personally throughout my entire working
life. A genuinely kind, open-hearted and incredibly wise woman, she
singlehandedly gave aromatherapy ‘style’. Her ability to connect the
world (Aromatherapy Associates is now in 45 countries) with our emotions
through pure essential oils was unparalleled. For me, her Support
Breathe eucalyptus blend has long been my go to for an instant
pick-me-up. Equally, Geraldine was always at the end of a phone or email
for her wondrously inspiring advice and quotes. I know that I shall
miss her, but her legacy lives on through her passion for aromatherapy. Let us all embrace it!’ w&h Beauty Director Jo GB
As brilliant and boundary pushing as beauty brands come, it’s fair to say Aromatherapy Associates has changed our perception of aromatherapy forever.
Founded in 1985 by Geraldine Howard and Sue Beechey, who both trained under legendary Micheline Arcier, Aromatherapy Associates began life in a private house in Fulham, offering bespoke blends to enhance customers’ emotional and physical wellbeing.
Demand for these oils, and the benefits they boast led to a commercial enterprise that now reaches over 40 countries, in some of the world’s most exclusive spas, hotels and stores. So much of that success comes down to Geraldine and Sue’s passion, belief in the power of aromatherapy and hard work educating the public. Of course the exquisite glass bottles and luxurious feel of the brand boosts its appeal to a public more used to homespun aromatherapy products, but it is undoubtedly the inspiring ideals and clear effectiveness of essential oils that grew Aromatherapy Associates into a household name.
In 2013, a particularly poignant blend, Inner Strength, launched, inspired by Geraldine’s own treatment for cancer and her use of aromatherapy oils for strength and bravery during this time, with proceeds going towards the Defence Against Cancer Foundation. This is just one example of how Aromatherapy Associates has made a difference to people’s lives – from bespoke spa treatments to ease all manner of physical ails, to innovative skin and body care that’s as kick-ass effective as it is kind. Through all of us that use, love and rely on those blends, the story, and Geraldine’s philosophy continues on.
