How to Grill King Crab Legs

Two Parts:

King crab legs are a delicious addition to a seafood course. They can be paired with a baked potato or corn on the cob, or eaten alone with butter and lemon. This wikiHow will teach you how to grill king crab legs.

Ingredients

  • 2-3 1/2 pounds of frozen or thawed king crab legs
  • 5 chopped garlic cloves
  • 4 lemon wedges
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped parsley
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt and add more for taste
  • Ground pepper (use freshly ground pepper for better taste)

Steps

Preparing

  1. Defrost your crab.Most store-bought king crab has been cooked and frozen. Thaw it before grilling. To defrost, you can just place the crab legs in the fridge for 24 hours or in a pot of cold water for 4 to 6 hours.
    • You can also grill your legs from frozen, if you prefer.
  2. Preheat the grill to medium heat.
  3. Lay several sheets of aluminum foil down on your counter.You’ll need one sheet for each set of king crab legs.
  4. Squeeze one lemon wedge on each cluster of legs.Place the squeezed lemon next to the legs.
  5. Cut 1/4 cup of butter into small cubes.Dot the crab legs with the butter.
  6. Sprinkle the parsley and chopped garlic on the king crab legs.Season with sea salt and black pepper.
  7. Cover each crab leg cluster with another foil sheet.Fold over the sides to form a packet.

Grilling and Serving

  1. Grill the packets until the crab legs are bright pink on the outside.The crab meat should be opaque.
    • This should take about 8-12 minutes for defrosted crab or about 20 minutes if you’re cooking from frozen or if the crab wasn’t cooked to begin with (this is uncommon).
  2. Melt the leftover butter.You can use the stove or a microwave.
  3. Carefully take the crab legs out of the packets.
  4. Serve with sea salt and melted butter.

  • If you prefer, you can place your crab legs directly on the medium grill, until the shell is charred and the meat is heated through. This will take about 3-5 on each side if the crab is thawed or 8-13 minutes if it’s still frozen. Start on indirect heat, and move over the heat source once the crab is thawed.
