My Experience with Maybelline The Powder Mattes by Colorsensational Lipstick Pink Potion:
The packaging of the lipstick is nice. It comes in the regular Maybelline Colorsensational packaging, what makes it different from others is the matte finish cap. The lipstick tube is rectangular and comes wrapped in a cellophane paper bearing the product description, ingredients list, etc. The tube has a mirror finish and it closes with a long plastic cap. The cap is color coded according to the color family that the respective shade falls into. As “Pink Potion” belongs to the pink family, it cap is dark pink.
Also, there is a color-coded sticker at the base of the lipstick tube, which bears the shade name. The cap of the lipstick shuts securely making it purse friendly. The brand’s tagline is printed on the lipstick tube. Overall, I do not find any flaws with the packaging. It is nice and travel friendly.
“Pink Potion” is a beautiful rosy pink shade with slightly cool undertones. The color looks very natural and similar to normal pink lips. It is so pretty and works for fair to medium skin tones. The lipstick does not contain any shimmer or chunky glitter. It is such a gorgeous everyday shade, which can be easily worn anywhere without looking over the top. It instantly brightens up my face. The shade is easily wearable.
As the tagline of this range suggests, the lipstick has powder matte or should I say, an ultra matte finish. Though, it has slight sheen initially and later settles down to a perfect matte finish. The lipstick is decently pigmented and capable of concealing very well. It gives semi-opaque coverage in a single swipe and the color is easily buildable. Just two-three swipes are good enough for perfect opaque and even finish.
I love matte lip colors so much and I have fallen in love with the texture of these lipsticks by Maybelline. Normally, matte lipstick tends to have a dry texture, but this one is different. The texture of the lipstick is incredibly soft and smooth. The lipstick feels so buttery smooth that it glides on the lips like a dream and does not cause any tugging or pulling, which is otherwise a common issue with matte lipsticks. Despite being so creamy smooth in texture, the lipstick bullet does not break or melt, which otherwise happened with most of my Maybelline lipsticks (no matter what the range). I am glad with the fact that these lipsticks do not break or detach from the base.
The formula is great but it has the tendency of clinging on to dry patches of the lips (which every matte lipstick does). Therefore, prepping the lips prior to application. The color does not settle into the fine lines of the lips. The formula is feathery light and feels ultra comfortable on the lips. It almost feels like nothing on the lips. The lipstick is not very moisturizing. So, I prefer using a lip balm beneath every time I use this lipstick otherwise my lips get dry at the end of the day. The formula is smudge proof and the color does not smudge even after a heavy meal as well. The formula is not heavily transferring. There is a little transfer of color.
The lasting power of the lipstick is nice. It easily lasts for 4-5 hours on my lips with slight fading. The lipstick could survive meals and fades away evenly without budging, leaving a pink tint behind. I am actually not a fan of lipsticks that leave stain behind, so I go for reapplication immediately. Also, all the darker shades from this range leave tint behind which is slightly difficult to remove and can be taken off using a good makeup remover only.
